About Me:

I live in beautiful Orlando, Florida, where I was born and raised. Although I've traveled many places, the only other place I've lived is Tallahassee, FL, during the 4 years I spent earning my Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology.

Professionally, I took my internship at Florida Hospital in Orlando and then worked as a microbiologist for 9 years. When all the labs started merging, I moved into a career in the Corporate world, working for healthcare IT companies in a variety of roles, from project manager to client manager to financial specialist. I now have turned my passion of teaching and helping others into the career I now enjoy with AmeriPlan USA. We offer consumer-driven dental and medical programs to those unable to afford or qualify for health insurance, or to those with gaps in their coverage. I love saving people money on their health care expenses, and I also enjoy helping solve small business owners' problem of employee retention by giving them the ability to offer their employees benefits at no cost to the business.

Personally, I've been married to Stephen Blackwell, a 'bloke' that hails from the UK, for the past 19 years. We have no children, but 2 rather unusual pets. You'll have to ask me, to hear about them!

I enjoy many things, but at the top of my list: reading & traveling. Although we live only a 1/2 hr from the beach, some of our favorite vacations are still the Carribean & Hawaii, relaxing on beautiful beaches. (A Floridian can never get too much sun!) Other favorite destinations are Greece and Barcelona. For my last vacation, I went hiking with Steve in Bryce Canyon, Utah. We also enjoyed 2 fabulous slot canyons out there, and if you've never done those, it is like being in a grown-up playground! Ask me for pictures.

Goals and ambitions are motivating and important in a person's life. I have a goal to achieve a work/life balance so that I can ENJOY life, instead of just living it. I'd use the extra time to do some volunteer work for Habitat for Humanity as well as learn the Mandarin Chinese language.

I'm having the time of my life right now by owning my own business. It has given me the ability to grow professionally, from scientist to business owner, learning speaking and marketing. I'm thrilled to have taken back control of my job and financial security, out of the hands of an employer. I was really sick of the rat race!

What do you hope to gain from belonging to this business community

First, to become an all-around resource to my clients, so no matter whether they need car repair, roofing, or flowers, I can refer them to someone I know and trust to treat them right. Secondly, small business owner contacts, to see if I can help any of them out with our health care savings programs.
